PLUCOMP & DU VERT A L’INFINI

Pluralist Composition, PluComp, is one of the first composition summer courses that approach music composition from a non-Eurocentric perspective. The focus of this year’s course was Iran and Turkey. Iranian composers Reza Vali and Shahab Pâranj, and Turkish composer Erberk Eryilmaz, addressed aspects of music composition, such as melody, rhythm, polyphony, form, and instrumentation, from an Iranian and Turkish perspective.

PluComp was held from July 3 to July 10, 2023, in Franche-Comté, France as part of the Du Vert a l’infini Festival (Festival International de Musique Nouvelle en Franche-Comté).

Participant composers met with each resident composer individually every day during the course. In addition to attending daily seminars, master classes, and discussions.

During this course, my second string quartet “Al Awazil” was rehearsed by the quartet in residence at the PluComp and performed in two concerts, as part of the Du Vert à l’infini Music Festival, on 8 July 2023 (Musée Baron Martin, Gray) and 9 July 2023 (Église de Lavoncourt).

I have the chance also to present and discuss my approach to harmonization of the Arabic maqam music with the participants and the composers in residence, in addition to attending amazing lectures, master classes, and workshops.
