ARAB-BORESCENT SYMMETRY (2022)
For Flute, Oboe, and Clarinet in Bb – ca. 9′
Based on an artwork titled “Arborescent symmetry” by Desmond Clarke.
While this artwork shows a perfect symmetry for a growing tree, the music in this piece takes this symmetry and transforms it into a more realistic one, reflecting how our balance is always disturbed by unwanted sounds, and how our consciousness grows to mirror our life events and the experiences we live. The music uses instruments and modern technics to imitate some of the Arabic music elements, such as traditional rhythms and Maqamat and set a mood for a traditional Arabic countryside.

DA’WATOU MATEN ILA L’ASHA’ (دعوة موت الى العشاء) (2021)
Song cycle of six Arabic art songs for soprano and piano – ca. 30′
Poems by Zanoubia Zaher
In this album, contemporary music and contemporary poetry, meet together in response to ideas imposed by a complex surreal reality that is impossible to express in a traditional language. so it was a necessity to invent a new language that accommodates all the conflicts and contradictions of that reality. It was a language that combined the power of abstraction in contemporary music the extremism of ideas in modern poetry, the authenticity of the Arab musical heritage, and the abundance of expression tools in the classical Arabic language. This album, which is characterized by peculiarity and innovation, was the truest possible expression for the composer and the poet.

SAMME’NA SHI MNA’ERFOU (سمّعنا شي منعرفه) (2021)
16 tracks for solo piano – ca. 45’
The album is a collection of the most famous Arabic songs, arranged for piano solo, performed, and recorded by pianist Ramzi Hakim.
This work comes as an attempt to bring together the various traditional Arabic musical dialects and present them in a unified musical language, to build a bridge of communication between European classical music and Arab music, and to expose the audience to classical music in our Arab heritage.

This album plays an important role in preserving a group of Arabic melodies that occupied a prominent place for a long period of time in our social life and our musical memory.

I recorded the same piece 12 times, and I shared one recording per day for 12 days, with each video featuring a new instrument and a new friend, with the 2020 Dabkeh band joining us in all the videos to celebrate the end of a messy year!

DANCES FOR AN ASYMMETRICAL WORLD (2019)
Include opus 1 to 4 – ca’ 66’
Four Pieces from my composition list – that happened to be opus 1, 2, 3, and 4 – were chosen for this album, inspired by the Arabic traditional music, melodies, rhythms, dances, and folklore, and developed into a contemporary unique way, to reflect the contradictions, traditions, and conflicts of our societies.
Our world is full of contrast: humanity/inhumanity, silence/sound, reality/dreams, sedulity, and exploitation… And we spend our entire lives searching for the balance between these contraries…
It’s time to stop searching and understand our unbalanced and asymmetrical nature, so we can feel the rhythm that governs the universe, and dance freely to it.
